Dow donate PPE kits and hygiene packages through Wahana Visi Indonesia to healthcare workers in the fight against Covid-19

JAKARTA, 04 June 2020 – Dow has donated personal protection equipment (PPE) kits and hygiene kits to healthcare workers in community health centers in Cilegon, Jakarta areas through non-profit organization, Wahana Visi Indonesia Foundation. This donation is expected to support the healthcare workers who are in the frontline fighting Covid-19.

News reported that the figure for Covid-19 positive cases in DKI Jakarta is the highest in Indonesia. As at 03 June 2020, there were 7,459 positive cases and 525 deaths. At the national level, there were 27,549 positive cases and 1,663 deaths. In Cilegon, although there are just 5 confirmed positive cases, people under surveillance and asymptomatic ones have reached 617 and 293 respectively.

With the fact that the figure keeps increasing, the battle that doctors, nurses, and all staff in healthcare facilities are facing is getting more arduous and the risk of getting infected with Covid-19 is higher. Therefore, the availability of PPE is fundamental to continuously protect them against the virus spread.

In partnership with Wahana Visi Indonesia, Dow donated PPE kits that consists of 3,500 surgical masks, 105 bottles of hand sanitizers, 2,160 pairs of hair covers, 2,160 pairs shoe covers, 144 goggles, and 2,160 pairs of medical gloves will be distributed to local health community centers in Penjaringan (North Jakarta), Jatinegara (East Jakarta), and Cilegon (Banten). The communities in Penjaringan and Jatinegara will also receive the hygiene kits in the form of e-vouchers. This e-voucher will allow them to buy hygienic goods, such as soap, disinfectant, buckets, water dippers, and detergent. Not only does it help the community to apply healthy and clean living, the e-voucher mechanism also helps local grocery stores to gain revenue.

Besides PPE and hygiene kits, Dow also donated 2,160 coverall gowns that will be donated to local health community centers in Penjaringan and Jatinegara. Together with its customer, Zhejiang Anshun, Dow also plans to donate 10,000 KN95 masks to East Indonesia area. Both masks and gowns contain raw materials produced by Dow.

Health community center is the first facility that people go to for medication or medical advice. These people have little or no information about their health condition, making the healthcare workers equally prone to the virus as those working in hospitals.

“We support the government’s effort in managing Covid-19 pandemic and through partnership with Wahana Visi Indonesia, we hope that PPE kits can help the healthcare workers to do their mission optimally and the hygiene kits can help the communities to apply a healthy and clean lifestyle. By working together, we believe that Indonesia will be able to cope with this difficult time,” said Vichan Tangkengsirisin, Dow Indonesia President Director.

“We appreciate the support from Dow Indonesia for the healthcare workers, who are fighting against Covid-19 relentlessly. There are many of them who were infected with Covid-19 and passed away. It is our duty together to support them, so they are not fighting this alone. We believe the support and collaboration done by many will give positive contributions in handling Covid-19 in Indonesia”, said Wahana Visi Indonesia National Director, Doseba T. Sinay.

Bambang Candra, Asia Pacific Commercial Vice President for Dow Packaging & Specialty Plastics, added, “I am very glad that Dow’s efforts to help the global healthcare challenge is reaching my home country. Dow’s materials science is in these PPE, helping to ensure the safety of our healthcare professionals. What is very remarkable as well is the collaboration and teamwork that is bringing Dow, our customer, and our community together to support these real-life heroes who are in the frontline to fight the pandemic.”
